Barbados: The Area Development Plan (1988)

Brown & Co has carried out donor agency funded work in the Eastern Caribbean and has experience in Cuba, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados.

The firm has specific experience in the field of:

• .agricultural policy and economic policy formulation on land registration

This project, carried out for the Government of Barbados Town and Country Planning Department and Ministry of Health and Environment, involved inputs from a multi-disciplined project team comprising over 20 consultants.

As the project manager, Brown & Co members and staff led the project working alongside other international experts in specialist disciplines with appropriate local experience.

The project delivered:
• Detailed Cadastral survey of all registered plantations and smallholder concentrations.
• Creation of GIS Metadata directory to incorporate data sets within a cartographic framework to aid decision making and land use planning.
• Review of existing agricultural policy mix and recommendations for change.
• Economic analysis of Barbados agricultural resources to include economic sub-optimal resource use analysis, water resources assessment and resource model preparation.
• Land capability analysis and land use classification.
• Recommendations for future land use for non-agricultural plantation, lands and yards.
• Evaluation of the future of the small farmer in Barbados agriculture and the development of a system of classification to assist .
Land Use Planning.
• Land subdivision policy and land use planning and the preparation of the area development plan as a rural planning policy document.
