Habitat assessment: maintenance, restoration
and creation
The diversity and quality of habitats is important for maintaining
biodiversity. Many species have very specific habitat
requirements for their survival. Their protection, maintenance
and enhancement are important for the natural environment while some habitats are protected by law.
Brown & Co provides advice and guidance regarding a range
of habitats including grasslands, woodlands, hedgerows and
watercourses, also a full surveying and mapping service.
Protected Species Surveys
Within the footprint of a project there is always the potential for
protected animals such as otters, water vole, bats and reptiles
to name but a few. Their presence needs to be assessed as
they are protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
If they are disturbed, or harmed, this can result in fines and
custodial sentences.
Our team provides advice, regulation and surveying to ensure
clients comply with regulation and do not put themselves
at risk of prosecution, or inadvertently reduce habitats for rare species.

Farm Biodiversity Action Plans (FBAP)
Our skilled environmental consultants assist clients with the full
range of Action Plan (Species, Habitat and Local), and have the
knowledge to focus on specific habitats and species which
are identified in the locality (Local FBAP).
Each plan has costed actions and targets. Reporting on targets
is carried out on a 3 to 5 year cycle. Usually four different
species and / or habitats are identified for each farm.
