There is nothing like the thrill of an auction!  Auctions have been a familiar part of community life for generations, with people getting together whether in the city or county; and whether attending a property sale, a chattels auctions or a machinery sale, these gatherings have been part of all our lives for such a long time.  But things have changed –it is not possible, as we all know, to have gatherings and an in-room auction at the moment.

So auctioneers are having to “think on their feet” and as we all come to terms with lockdown and Covid-19 there is a way forward.

At the end of March, at very short notice, Brown&Co moved their spring auction from the Assembly House to an online platform which was held in private and subject to the regulations in force regarding Covid-19.

With the support of our clients, we wondered what would happen.  The results were excellent, with the majority of property sold and a brand new string to our bow as well.  We now know that this approach works well and because of this, we are looking forward to our summer sale which will be held on an online basis on 26th June.

We have some 10 entries so far, including bare land, woodland and property in need of renovation in Norwich and Norfolk, with further properties to inspect when we are able to.  Our preliminary advert will appear shortly, but the message from here is that the show goes on and that in these unusual times we are confident that we can provide a first class service for buyers and sellers alike.  We have preached about the importance of service before and much of the online process will be similar to what everybody is used to, but we will now be including excellent website representation with virtual viewings, not to mention our personal service.

Looking back over the last 25 years or so, we have seen so many different markets and highs and lows and often very challenging times as well.

However, one thing has always been certain and that is that the business of buying and selling continues and we expect this to be the case as we move forward.  Who knows, the advent of the online approach may be a watershed moment.

All of us here look forward to continuing to talk about the auction process and how it can help unlock value and achieve results for buyers and sellers alike and here at Brown & Co myself and the team are ready, willing and able to deal with any queries and, when we are able to, to inspect property and provide advice, with all inspections and viewings respecting current Covid-19 best practice recommendations.
