The new English Woodland Creation Offer (EWCO) has been launched, with an initial £15.9 million annual budget to fund new woodland planting across England, funded by the Exchequer through the Nature for Climate Fund.
The scheme will fund the full capital cost of establishment at a 100% intervention rate capped at £8,500/ha, a significant increase on the existing Woodland Creation Grant. The scheme is much more joined up with other public good initiatives, available in addition to the core grant are stackable, bolt on payments for delivery of social and ecosystem services each worth between £400 and £2,800/ha up to £8,000/ha. Maintenance payments through Countryside Stewardship worth £200/ha/yr will also be supported through the new scheme.
The EWCO will be administered solely by the Forestry Commission, with improved efficiency, reduced processing times and a suite of additional capital items available.
This grant scheme is competitive, understanding the detail of the scoring system and delivery of a quality application will be key for success. Brown & Co has a strong track record in delivery of new woodland creation projects across England, utilising the full range of grants and incentives available for carbon capture, woodland design planning, capital funding, management and re-stocking.
The EWCO is fully compatible with the WCaG carbon auctions, for which Brown & Co remain the largest project developer, achieving the highest government carbon prices throughout the first 3 reverse auctions. The next auction dates have been confirmed for late July, which we can help you enter by the application deadline of the 9th July through registration with IHS Markit, Woodland Carbon Code and other required platforms.
