About this property
Brown&Co offers a most handsome, detached, Period residence in Walsoken, Norfolk. Austin House has been in the same family since 1956 and this fine Grade ll Listed property is accompanied by gardens and grounds extending to approximately an acre, subject to measured survey, which include a walled swimming pool and a floodlit, all-weather tennis court.
The house dates from 1841, considered to be England's finest period of architecture. Undoubtedly, this is one of the most distinctive residences in the area and is constructed in a striking symmetrical design of three bay over two storey, detailed by protruding brick pilasters in a beautiful gault brick. The front door has a fanlight surrounded by sash windows under skewed window gauges with the property front elevation further enhanced by a curved circular driveway framed by Mediterranean laurel hedging and cypress trees
Gardens surround the house; to the north there is an enclosed lawn and formal garden which is divided from the west (rear) by a brick pillar and timber pergola walkway with an ancient wisteria. The rear has access to a walled, outdoor, heated swimming pool and terrace and there are further lawns and a rear patio (with adjacent outside WC and two storage rooms), a garden room, a hard tennis court with lighting and a sheltered pond set amongst mature trees in a large grassed area. There is also a parking area with a garage/workshop and a final, smaller formal garden to the south of the house.
Inside, the house is substantial at approximately 255m2/2747sqft in size, subject to measured survey. There are three formal reception rooms; a drawing room, dining room and family room. There is also a study, a shower room and a staircase with its Venetian window overlooking the side gardens. At the rear of the house, overlooking the rear garden, is an open plan kitchen breakfast room with four door AGA. Upstairs there are five bedrooms and a family bathroom.
