The ease of bidding at our online auctions is demonstrated by the fact a buyer did so while on the beach on holiday."

Our Norwich office's online auction saw all 16 lots sold – including one property bid for by a holidaymaker while on the beach in Spain.

Buyers were prepared to pay nearly £80,000 over the top end of the guide prices at our online auction which saw a 100% sales success rate.

Whereas our Norwich based auction team used to hold in-room sales, we have been operating online since Covid - with continuing success.

And proving the online auction model really does offer flexibility, one buyer Kim Adams, from Cambridgeshire, successfully made a purchase while on her last day of a holiday in Spain, literally on the beach with her partner.

The beach from where buyer Kim Adams bought a property at our Norwich office's online auction.

Kim, who had never bought an auction property from Brown&Co before, registered and put in a bid the day before the sale was scheduled to end. However, after snorkelling in the sea at La Mata in Torrevieja, she sat down on the beach and looked at her mobile phone to see she had been outbid.

So, literally while still on the beach, she started taking part in the auction.

Kim wanted to buy Lot 5, 4, Saunders Yard, Austin Fields, King’s Lynn, a modular building used as self-contained offices, which was for sale for a guide price of between £20,000-£40,000.

In the last minute, around 30 bids were made with the price increasing from £45,000 to Kim’s final bid of £71,000 which sealed the purchase.

She said: “I was worried the phone signal wouldn’t be good enough but it was really easy to bid and I managed to buy the office.

“My partner and I didn’t have time to celebrate though, we sort of cheered with our hands in the air but we were leaving to come home, so we had to quickly go off and pack.”

The online auction was the first for a while at Brown&Co, in which every lot sold with many achieving from £50,000 to as much as £76,000 over the top end of the guide price.

Among those were Four Winds, Watton Road, Bawburgh, land amounting to about three acres which sold for £189,000, guided at £100,000-£120,000.

The Glebe, Honing, a three-bedroom semi-detached house sold for £216,000, guided at £120,000-£140,000. And 89, Mount Pleasant, Walsingham, a three-bedroom semi-detached house sold for £193,000, guided at £100,000-£125,000.

Peter Hornor, Partner, Residential, Brown&Co Norwich, who is an auctioneer, said: “We are delighted with a 100% sales success.

"Online auctions continue to perform so well for our firm, maximising value for our clients and as the sale in Spain shows, offer flexibility and versatility.

“The ease of bidding at our online auctions is demonstrated by the fact a buyer did so while on the beach on holiday. We congratulate all our buyers and our Auction Manager Trevor Blythe and look forward to our next online auctions in October and December.”
