About this property
DESCRIPTION The Long House is Listed Grade II as a property of architectural and historic interest and has been sympathetically restored, maintained and extended over the years. The ground floor rooms provide the property with an open plan feel and the whole will be of great interest to a great number of different buyers looking to live within striking distance of Norwich.
The journal of the Norfolk Historic Buildings Group (Volume 7, 2020) and known as the "Buildings of Hempnall: Part of the Great Rebuilding" provides a great deal of detail about The Long House dating back to 1556. The property has in the past incorporated the village Post Office and in its more distant past a watchmaker's shop. Evidence suggests that it may once have had a thatched roof. For the last 40 years it has been restored by the vendors, who have created a wonderful family home with some privacy in the centre of the village.
The accommodation works well and the property boasts a tremendous amount of character with exposed beams throughout and including dining room, entrance hall/sitting room, drawing room and family room, together with studio room, garden room and kitchen on the ground floor, along with four bedrooms over the first and second floors.
The ground floor has been enlarged over the years and there is potential to enlarge the kitchen, subject to the necessary planning consent being forthcoming.
Outside, the grounds are a major feature of the property, being overlooked by the church and having privacy, being mainly laid to lawn with flower borders. Included in the sale is a garage and a number of garden sheds, together with pond and separate courtyard areas.
LOCATION Hempnall is located about 8 miles from Norwich and there are local shopping facilities in the village. There is easy access to the A140 Ipswich Road and Bungay is about 5 miles away. The property is located in the centre of the village but there is a great deal of privacy at the rear. This is an excellent opportunity to live tucked away in a village in an historic house nestling below the church.
Hempnall itself offers a primary school and butcher/deli and there is easy access to Diss via the main Ipswich Road.
DIRECTIONS Proceed out of Norwich on the Ipswich Road and continue through Newton Flotman. Just before reaching Long Stratton, turn left at the new roundabout and continue into Hempnall. At the garage, turn left and the property will be seen on the right hand side.
Alternatively, from Norwich travel through Lakenham and head south through Stoke Holy Cross and Saxlingham Nethergate. On reaching Hempnall go through the village and the property will be seen on the left hand side adjoining the church.
