More recent and detailed mapping provided by Soilscapes, produced by the Cranfield Soil and Agrifood Institute, indicates that the land predominantly comprises Soilscapes 7 and 18. These are described as freely draining, slightly acidic but base-rich soils, together with slowly permeable, seasonally wet, slightly acidic but base-rich clayey soils.
