National Grid shares proposals for its Eastern Green Link 5 scheme
Thu 15 May 2025
The Eastern Green Link 3 project will create a High Voltage Direct Current link from Peterhead, Aberdeenshire to south Lincolnshire and west Norfolk. The Eastern Green Link 4 project will create a further HVDC link from eastern Scotland to south Lincolnshire and west Norfolk. The Eastern Green Link 5 project will create a high voltage electricity link, with associated onshore infrastructure, between Scotland and England. EGL 5’s subsea offshore cables would run from Scotland and make landfall on the Lincolnshire coastline at Anderby Creek.
The proposed network installations are required to increase capability and facilitate the connection of proposed new offshore wind projects and localised renewable energy supplies along the transmission route.
Whilst EGL3, 4 & 5 will be largely offshore, onshore infrastructure such as converter stations and substations as well as underground cables will be required to connect the systems to the areas where the electricity is required. Interactive plans are publicly available on the National Grid website EGL5 Public Statutory Consultation Web App and further info will be available at public consultation events, for more details visit: Our proposals (EGL 5) | National Grid
