A splash park is set for the site of a former lido in St Neots, Cambridgeshire after a planning application was submitted to the local council.

Proposals are for land in Huntingdon Road, St Neots to be transformed into a fun outdoor facility with water sprays and jets after our Architecture and Planning team worked on the scheme with St Neots Aquatic and Leisure Trust.

The lido operated from 1961 until its closure in 2003 after which it has remained vacant.

The St Neots Aquatic and Leisure Trust was formed in 2016 with the aim of returning a water-based leisure use to the site and has worked with our Architecture and Planning Team to design the new splash park for the town.

A planning application has now been submitted to Huntingdonshire District Council and it is hoped that a positive decision will be made before Christmas.

The underused site is adjacent to the bowling alley ‘Eat n Bowl’ and it is intended that it will also host a new café and seating close to Priory Park as well as space to accommodate temporary leisure activities including inflatables, a climbing wall, outdoor games etc.

Simon Tindle, Planner and a Divisional Partner, based in our St Neots office, said: "Our clients’ ambition is to create a quality outdoor, water-based leisure facility. The pool was a cherished asset of the town and the community is keen to see a water-based leisure use return to this site. This facility will be something for families to enjoy, particularly in the summer months.”
