A Summary of Grandfather Rights for Pesticide Users Changes to Current Rules

As of 26th November 2015, “Grandfather Rights” shall no longer be authorised. Subsequently anyone using plant protection products (PPPs) on their own or their employer’s land, without holding adequate certificate of competence will be causing an offence. To avoid this, City and Guilds Land Based Services have developed a new Level 2 Award in the “Safe Use of Pesticides, replacing “Grandfather Rights”.

This course has been developed to take significantly less time and cost less than the existing Level 2 qualification for pesticide use. In completing this new developed course, it will allow you to continue to use PPPs on your own or your employers land. But if you intend to also, or solely use PPPs for professional use as a contractor, you must obtain one of the existing Level 2 awards appropriate to the work and type of equipment you use.
