Capital Grants 2026

Capital grants for 2026 have now come to a close. With funding of £225 million allocated from the overall agriculture budget of £2.4 billion, the grant scheme this year saw an expected fast uptake when it first opened on the 30th of July.

Within the first 12 hours, 25% of the funding had been allocated to those who had been quick to apply, with 75% accounted for by Saturday the 1st of August. This is representative of the apparent new era of agricultural grant scheme applications – quick, fast paced and competitive. Applications of this nature are increasingly complicated, requiring agricultural agent support to take advantage of the efficiency and knowledge gained only by the experience completing numerous applications provides. 

2026 applicants for capital grants which required Catchment Sensitive Approval had to have had a site visit prior to April to ensure endorsements could be readied in time for the July opening. This is due to the ever-increasing volume of interest for these more technical options within the scheme. As these options requiring CSF endorsement increase in popularity, the issue of demand is only going to rise. This again highlights the new requirement for landowners and farmers to be proactive in asking for advice and ensuring they register their interest well ahead of grant openings to ensure applications requiring this extra support can be prepared in time.
