1. How long have you been at Brown and Co?
I joined Brown & Co in August 2001 and have worked from 4 different offices within the firm since that time. Currently based in Banbury.
2. What are your specialist areas?
General commercial practice but most of my time is either undertaking valuation work for a number of purposes such as secured lending, tax, expert witness etc or the sale commercial property and residential development land.
3. What has been your most rewarding job to date and why?
The most interesting and rewarding instruction was the sale of 2 acres of a former factory site – the clients were in need of the money and the property had stagnated on the market with another agent. After suggesting a strategic review of the property and obtaining planning consent for redevelopment I subsequently sold the site to a developer all within a 12 month period.
4. What’s the best bit about working as a Commercial Surveyor?
Meeting new people and projects – with ability to provide a different point of view to achieve the clients aims often with a course of action they had not even thought about.
5. What is your most interesting current instruction?
A promotion of an edge of town potential residential site where there is a 3rd party ownership. I am in the process of completing negotiations to settle the 3rd party position and in the process uplifting the land value for all parties.
6. How do you see the market in 2016?
The residential development land market remains strong in the Banbury area although many house builders now have a land bank to work off. The industrial market is also very strong from both a sale and lettings position. I am of the opinion there will be continued growth in freehold prices and rents but not at the level of 2015 – I have an eye on the wider global financial markets and European situation – we may yet catch a cold! Cautiously positive!
