An article in the Guardian in August 2014 reported that on average 31 pubs a week are closing in the UK. Often these are village pubs that ultimately then get converted for residential use.
Brown & Co’s Retford Office had to look at a range of alternative uses when instructed to let the former Phoenix Pub Restaurant in the centre of Retford just off the Market Square.
The Pub was formerly let to the Barracuda Pub Company who went into administration in 2013. It is a modern building extending to just under 4,000 square feet at ground floor level.
After a marketing campaign that focused on the retail, restaurant and leisure sectors, Brown & Co have let the property to My Gym Limited who were successful in securing a planning consent for change of use. My Gym Limited is a newly formed gym operator owned by a Retford resident with extensive management expertise within the industry.
Brown & Co acted for Allois Properties. My Gym were unrepresented. Neil Porter of Allois Properties commented “The letting to My Gym came as a result of an extensive marketing campaign and sees the reuse of a town centre former pub. Brown & Co’s expert local market knowledge was an important factor in reaching this successful outcome”.
