Town Close Road, Norwich

Town Close Road is a Grade II listed, two storey semi- detached house in Norwich. The brief was to upgrade and repair the property, improve its usability and help future-proof the house for modern living without losing the special architectural interest that gives it heritage value. By carefully incorporating an extension alongside the refurbishment, the project secures the long-term future of the building. A sensitive approach to materials and design respects the historic character of the building and the Conservation Area.
 
The opportunities and constraints of the site were explored in an early feasibility study, which helped shape and inform the developing proposals. Our work included proposals for the retention and repair of the existing listed building, the removal of later unsympathetic additions, and the design of a new replacement single-storey extension to the rear. 
 
In delivering a heritage lead scheme, we secured both Planning Permissions and Listed Building consents in timely fashion. Early engagement in collateral approach with the LPA Conservation Team resulted in a scheme fully supported by the Officers. Supporting information included a Heritage Statement, a Design and Access Statement, and detailed conservation-led design information to demonstrate how the proposals would preserve the significance, character, and fabric of the building.
 
We have been subsequent being instructed to provide full scope of service to deliver the project on site.
 
This project demonstrates a careful and practical approach to the refurbishment of a Grade II listed house in Norwich. Combining repair, restoration and sensitive extension work to bring new life to a heritage asset while meeting current standards and future needs.
