The soils belong to the Beccles 3 Soil Association which is described as slowly permeable seasonally waterlogged fine loamy over clayey soils and similar soils with only slight seasonal waterlogging, some calcareous clayey slopes especially on steeper slopes. These soils are capable of growing winter cereals and some short term grassland. Sugar beet has also been grown on the farm in the recent past.
